Opportunity for a focused creative and digital industries visit to the World Expo in Shanghai 2010

This is a unique opportunity as Liverpool is the only UK city at the World Expo in Shanghai 2010 and will be representing the Northwest. The World Expo is running from May to October 2010, and is expected to attract around 70 million visitors and will showcase the cultural and economic vibrancy of the world's leading urban centres and nations.

The Liverpool Pavilion is to be a showcase for the dynamic creativity and enterprise that is embodied by the city - and a showcase for the historic renaissance, which it has undergone, in the last decade. The Pavilion will also position Liverpool as the gateway to England’s North West, telling the story of the region’s diversity, scale and the exceptional quality of its culture, with a rich and varied heritage, sporting and leisure offer and some outstanding natural environments.

Virtual Incubator for Game and Animation SMEs

VITA for GAMEs

Summary

The current project proposal titled “Virtual Incubator - Creative Industries” aims to encourage entrepreneurship in the game and animation sector, train qualified personnel for the sector, create a platform for academicians, companies and students to work together, increase societal awareness towards digital arts, build a platform for sharing information on game development and animation, create new technology-based companies, ensure that university-industry cooperation is effective and continuous, and create opportunities for cooperation with other countries based on this sector.
The proposed project is a transfer of a project developed by Pacificstream Information C.I.C. named “VirincCreate - Virtual Incubator - Creative Industries ”, which is being seeked further funding to develop the model, implement new interactive access to the content and 'roll' it out to creative enterprises across Europe.
The idea of the project is a result of the experience of all partners in working with SMEs which are specialized in fields such as animation and simulation technologies, game development. There is a major gap in the sector which is well aware of the
fact that such creative industries need guidance, as many of them are still in their early stages of development.
The potential target group of the proposed project will include the incubatees within METUTECH that are specialized in fields such as animation and simulation technologies, game development. METUTECH is well aware of the fact that such creative industries need guidance, as many of them are still in their early stages of development. METUTECH is willing to undertake the significant role of introducing these ideas to the respective communities. Hence, the METUTECH family wants to improve the capacity of their network by means of training programs, which will ultimately build awareness, guide entrepreneurs seeking finance by the development of projects directed at the various sub-branches and genres of the game sector such as animation, 3D games, casual / serious games, and mobile games according to the interests, level of knowledge and capabilities of the applicants. It is believed that the infrastructures and network of contacts provided by METU and METUTECH comprised of proficient SME’s, R&D staff and academicians will strengthen the impact of such activities.
This project will be developed in close cooperation of 7 partners from 3 countries with international experience and knowledge in the field of the game and animation sector and in EU project management and implementation. As a whole, the partnership structure includes Ceidot Studios, Enocta, TROYKA, PSi, Digitalcity Business, Games Academy.
The main outcomes provided from the project are web-site with e-learning tool, DVD and lecture notes. The intangible outcome will be the created innovative approach to VET training in the sector of the game and animation for all employees of the SME, entrepreneurs and young graduates.
